Through their solo exhibition, the visitor (revisited), artist Laura Kay Keeling presents collages of lush ecosystems that honor a time of connection and grief shared with a praying mantis in her backyard. Digital and analog images taken during this time are then reflected and repeated onto themselves, much as an insect’s compound eye might see it. In this way, Keeling processes the id of the viewer through a small, cradled look at the world; one full of meaning and story. Collaboration with the mantis’ little view to the outside world allows for endless growth of temporal emotional memory. These works document green, verdant maps to neurodivergent joy — and the mutual care that can be found in the power of witnessing.

Our mission is to support Disabled, d/Deaf, chronically ill, neurodiverse, k/crip, Mad, sick & spoonie artists; to cultivate Disability Arts in Canada; and to increase opportunities for everyone to participate in the arts.
